Sussex Respite was developed by Wendy Lutman-Pauc, a registered nurse working for 19 years in the NHS in an acute hospital setting.
Her main experience is working in the operating department as a Recovery Nurse. During this time she has cared for patients post surgery from a variety of specialties. It was Wendy’s decision to create Sussex Respite while continuing to practice as a Nurse. She recognised that there is little support for carers looking after a loved one at home and she particularly became aware of this when a family member became a carer.
It can be extremely difficult to have a break from caring if your relative cannot be left alone and you struggle to find someone to help. Sometimes a couple of hours is all that’s needed to have some time to yourself, meet friends or perhaps go shopping or get to an appointment. This is what encouraged Wendy to create Sussex Respite, a service that provides short-term respite care for carers enabling them to have a break.
Care can be booked for 2-4 hours Monday, Wednesday and Friday and also at weekends by prior agreement. Wendy is a conscientious, hardworking individual who always puts the needs of her clients first and aims to deliver a service of a high standard at all times.
